Former international ironman Jonathan Crowe is celebrating the opening of the 150th Zambrero Mexican restaurant in Australia.

Zambrero is Australia’s largest quick service Mexican franchise and the newest restaurant opened in Nowra on April 20 making it the chains first restaurant on the NSW South Coast south of Wollongong. Mr Crowe is the Zambrero NSW development agent and said the Nowra restaurant has already made an impact. There were more than 120 applicants for positions and 25 local people in the Shoalhaven have been employed.
“We’ve had local businesses involved in the restaurant construction and set up from the get-go. So Zambrero Nowra already feels like a part of the community. The response was quite phenomenal. We’re thrilled to be Australia’s 150th restaurant and the most exciting part is that the people of Nowra and surrounding areas now have access to healthy, modern, fresh and flavoursome Mexican cuisine.”
Mr Crowe said the continued growth of the business in Australia means Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate initiative, which sees one meal donated to someone in need for every burrito or bowl sold in its restaurants, was achieving even more results putting food on the tables of people living in poor parts of the world.
Nearly 14 million meals have been donated to date, supported by Zambrero’s international and Australian distribution partners, Rise Against Hunger (previously known as Stop Hunger Now) and Foodbank.
Founder Dr Sam Prince’s vision is to donate one billion meals by 2025.
“I started Zambrero back in 2005 at the age of 21 whilst studying medicine as I really wanted to establish a successful business that helped people in need at the same time,” Dr Prince said.
“Plate 4 Plate is the heart of our business model. It’s exciting to see that over 12 years later we are now opening our 150th restaurant in Nowra and that drive to make the world a better place is still at our core. None of this could have been achieved without our loyal customer base, passionate team, strong brand culture and great network of franchisee partnerships. It is incredibly humbling to see how far we’ve come and reflect on the contributions we’ve made to ending world hunger. We’re committed to being a force for good, well into the future.”
