OPINION
My partner dragged me to see one of those comic book movies, Guardians of the Galaxy, on the weekend at Hoyts Warrawong and I was shocked.

Not because lead character Chris Pratt didn’t get his shirt off (why else would I see a Marvel movie) but because people were drinking!
And when did the seats get so comfortable?
It has been a few months since I’ve been to see a film from anywhere but my couch but I was blown away.
Now I understand why my partner keeps sneaking off to see movies without me.
The weekend’s experience has left me questioning why we have a Netflix account.
I don’t believe Warrawong is the only cinema to have been taken over by reclining leather (or possibly pleather) seats and bar service (obviously you need to be over 18 to utilise that).
I have seen on my Facebook feed it’s happening elsewhere too.
Also, if you buy online there’s no need to print your ticket like in the ‘olden days’, you just show your smartphone to the usher.
What really impressed me was rather than lining up at the candy bar I can now order my Choc Top from an employee in the foyer. They then radio my request to another employee so it’s ready for me to pick up.
A date at the movies has now become a whole new experience.
The only downside is they don’t have arm rests that fold up, so I can’t cuddle my loved one during the scary bits. Small price to pay for comfort.
Even if you sat in the front row I think it would be comfortable, so no need to book the chiropractor post show.

I really liked Guardians. I just can’t understand how Vin Diesel still gets a credit for saying one line!
“I am Groot.”
