The windy mornings didn’t deter most of the crews, and they found as the days progressed the conditions just got better.
A lot of crews reported very slow starts over the weekend but by mid-morning and further into the afternoon the bite increased and there were some impressive fish caught.
There have still been plenty of pan-sized snapper about in the northern suburbs but not as big as some of the bags we have been seeing from around the Shellharbour area.
Reports suggest that the reds in the shallows were hard to find last weekend but as soon as crews headed out to the wider reefs such as Wollongong and Trap reef, there were plenty of bigger reds there waiting for a plastic or bait to be dropped their way.
The kingfish were still about in good numbers with some solid fish again coming in earlier this week and last weekend but the bigger ones are only giving you one shot at them before the hordes of smaller rats start stealing all your live baits.
Fish were caught up to and over the one metre mark again last week and as per the norm, a lot of the bigger fish found their freedom off the bottom due to the shallow water that they were hooked in.
The flathead bite still remained awesome to say the least, with very healthy and large sized fish coming back to the ramps both days last weekend.
Scarborough, Bulli, Wollongong and Port sandy drifts were all holding excellent fish averaging around the 50-60cm mark and very fat and thankfully the green toads and barracouta have started to thin out.
Beaches have started to slow a little with the onset of the cooler weather but in saying that this is the time of year that the serious mulloway hunters are just starting the hunt for the big silver ghosts.
There have been some great sized bream about at present along with some monster salmon and tailor.
