The NSW Government has added 30 organisations to its Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) Scheme to support those struggling to pay electricity or gas bills.
The EAPA scheme provides emergency financial assistance to customers at risk of disconnection from essential services.
“Close to $12 million in vouchers were issued through community welfare organisations in 2015-16,” said Energy and Utilities Minister Don Harwin.
More than 55,000 people had been helped last year.
The Illawarra organisations that can hand out the vouchers are; Anglicare Wollongong, Illawarra Multicultural Services, Salvation Army (Wollongong), Albion Park Community Centre, Rail Neighbourhood Centre (Albion Park), Baptist Community Services, Shellharbour City Baptist Church (Warilla), Bellambi Neighbourhood Centre, St Vincent de Paul (Corrimal and Oak Flats), Cringila Community Co-op, Oak Care, Port Kembla Community Project (Port Kembla).
