Mr McLachlan was terminated by South32 last month, following an undies protest in March.
His dismissal has sparked a national CFMEU-led campaign.
Illawarra Labor MPs Sharon Bird (Cunningham) and Stephen Jones (Whitlam) have thrown their support behind the fight – and want Mr Joyce to do the same.
In a joint statement, the MPs said Mr Joyce was the “self-proclaimed best friend of the miners” and should work with South32 to get Mr McLachlan reinstated.
The call comes after Mr Jones showed a copy of the Mercury’s May 5 front page in the Parliament last week.
Appin miners wore their underwear for 10 minutes on March 7, to highlight issues with South32’s supply of work clothes and a delay of more than a year in providing a promised laundry service.
