KarTent’s biodegradable tents, made out of recycled cardboard, will be available for Wollongong’s Yours and Owls festival on the Labour Day long weekend.
“[It’s] a hassle free, environmentally friendly accommodation option for music festival punters,” festival co-founder Balunn Jones said.
According to KarTent one in four people leave their festival tent behind after a festival, globally, for reasons like laziness and damage.
Campers don’t need to worry about the weather as the design of the temporary home is to be able to absorb up to 400 per cent of its own weight in water. (check out a tent going through a car wash below)
“It’s a dream come true launching our product in Australia and to bring the cardboard revolution to the other side of the globe” Jan Portheine said, co-founder of KarTent.
The designated festival campsite is at the Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort on Pioneer Road in Fairy Meadow, with 700 individual spots allocated for the event.
Destination Wollongong’s major events manager Jeremy Willshire said the two-man tents retail for $90 which will be setup for the camper’s arrival (and dismantled by council on departure), or punters can opt to BYO their own tent.
General admission and camping tickets for Yours and Owls go on sale Monday May 22 from www.moshtix.com.au
Headline acts include The Presets, Illy, SAFIA, The Preatures, At The Drive In, Montaigne, Northlane, Ali Barter, The Pinheads and Bec Sandridge.
Festival organisers are yet to confirm whether it will be a similar set up to last year with two stages, artisan stalls and gourmet food.
They’re also yet to confirm whether there will be a side-event catering to those under 18.
KarTent's are already pitched onsite (for three nights for up to 2 people) + camping spot ($110 per person for 3 nights)
