What’s baffled some fans is the apparent intention of Sharks coach Shane Flanagan to play Dugan in the centres despite the latter’s insistence he sees himself as a fullback at club level.
It’s even led to some criticism being leveled at Dugan but what people need to remember is that it wasn’t him who couched the argument over his retention in terms of position.
It’s reasonable to think that being a Test and Origin incumbent – of which incoming half Ben Hunt is neither – and being a genuine two position player would increase his market value not decrease it.
Dragons recruitment chief Ian Millward has made a habit of placing a value on a player and sticking to it and it’s served the club well given the amount of quality players now locked down long-term.
Dugan thought he was worth more and got it at Cronulla. What position he plays at the Sharks next season is ultimately irrelevant.
