GOYOkids founders Nancy Lawford-Miles and Rebecca Schafer led the fun as the children at the Balgownie preschool took part in a specially choreographed yoga session.
The kids did ‘’age-appropriate’’ yoga moves to tell The Cow Tripped Over the Moon story, written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
‘’This was just a fun way to do yoga for kids and support an important event,’’ Mrs Schafer said.
‘’The kids seemed to have a great time.’’
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual Australian Library and Information Association initiative designed to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
Now in its 17th year, the ‘’colourful, vibrant and fun’’ event uses an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Thousands of people around the country read/engage with the chosen story in some way, simultaneously.
The Cow Tripped Over the Moon was the chosen story in 2017.
Mrs Schafer, who is a qualified kids yoga instructor, added GOYOkids leads educators and parents into the wonderful world of kids’ yoga through favourite stories retold with a twist, or a bend, or a balance, and always a giggle.
‘’Our brand of kids yoga is light-hearted and full of creativity, with an added touch of tai chi and a moment of mindfulness to help kids be focused and in control,’’ she said.
‘’We usually provide audio yoga stories but we also do self-sufficient kids yoga classes, such as the one today.’’
Meantime, more than 800 children across all 26 Big Fat Smile community preschools participated in National Simultaneous Storytime.
Big Fat Smile CEO, Jenni Hutchins encouraged all early childhood and learning organisations to support this national campaign.
