However, they might need to run in their sunglasses thanks to the lurid “on-trend” colour chosen for the track.
The upgrades included resurfacing the running track, long jump and triple jump tracks, a pole vault track, upgrades to the four throwing circles, and new line marking of the new track surfaces.
They mean the track to be officially certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), which means records set there will be formally recognised.
Deputy Lord Mayor John Dorahy said the eye-fizzing colour – known as Hertha Blue – had been chosen “as it is the current trend for track colours and really stands out”.
“The new track materials were chosen for their durability with heavy use, world-class performance and preference by athletes around the world,” he said.
