I don’t get people who collect things.

The last time I was a committed collector was back in 1993.
Via dedicated eating, I had acquired the entire set of McDonald’s Happy Meal Muppets characters which were proudly displayed on a chest of drawers in my room.
Mum chucked them out while I was away on school camp.
At the end of last week I saw a crazy news article about those little Marvel superhero discs that Woolies has been giving away when you spend a certain amount at the register.
I don’t really know what they are, but I always say yes when offered so I can give them to my nephew.
Punters have been sending abusive emails to Woolworths customer service accusing them of releasing limited numbers of certain discs to make people spend more money to complete their set.
The absence of Hulk is turning people into the Hulk.
My Facebook feed has no shortage of parents (I’m assuming) asking to swap numbers 19 and 37 for a 14 or 4.
Apparently people are getting so nuts over collecting the full sets of these things, some of them are selling for up to $900 on eBay.
Nine! Hundred! Dollars!
Back in the year 2000, I worked on the merchandise stand at a pop-up ‘Pokemon Park’ event in Sydney.
There were these limited edition framed sets of the full collection of Pokemon tazo’s selling for thousands and to my great surprise all of them sold out.
I can’t find any Pokemon Park 2000 merchandise on eBay, so I’m not sure it was a good investment.
No judgement though, you’ve got until tomorrow to get into Woolies and claim your Marvel discs. And if anyone needs Captain America or Thor, I’ll offload them for cheap.
