Having struggled for playing depth during the campaign, the Hawks produced a stirring effort to win a thriller over the Sydney Comets, 61-59.
Lauren Sparks added 15 points, while Eleri Morris had 11.
It was their first win in 10 games.
Meanwhile, a haul of 26 points from Sean Vincent Mullan wasn’t enough to lift the Illawarra Hawks to victory in Sunday’s Waratah League game against Norths Bears.
In a season where Illawarra have struggled for points, it was Mullan’s highest score on the season, but the Bears outlasted them at the Snakepit, winning 87-81.
Scott Hunter was in outstanding touch from outside the arc, hitting four three-pointers in a total of 16, while Jarrod Blair Sorenson and Bailey O’Brien each had 13.
