Made From Scratch will be a regular evening at Wollongong Town Hall to showcase the region’s fresh new talent.
“We’ve had a bit of a void since when we lost The Vault [Cabaret in Port Kembla] and we wanted to continue that philosophy of supporting local artists”” associate producer Annie Clapton said.
“We wanted to diversify the types of artists we use.”
Seven artists from musical acts to spoken word, dance, circus and drama have each been booked for 10 minutes spots on the next event for Saturday June 10.
“We want it to be a safe space for people to experiment. So you can start small, you might have a little idea and you want to test it out … to see what works and what doesn’t work,” Ms Clapton said.
“It’s about giving a platform to a emerging artists … and also it’s not just drama or it’s not just music.”
Each artist involved is paid, including those commissioned to create the artwork for marketing posters.
This week improviser, devisor and actor Amy Kersey will MC. Theatre makers re:group, dancer Lisa McDonell, poet Lorin Elizabeth, circus performer Neisha Murphy, performance artist Tamara Elkins and Music Farmers DJs will also entertain.
Merrigong has been reaching out through social media and via word of mouth to explore the unknown but welcome enquiries to be part of future Made From Scratch events.
