Dapto Rotarian, train enthusiast and community stalwart Peter Abba has retired after 52 years as a pharmacist.

It follows the recent sale of AMCAL Max Dapto by Mr Abba and his business partners Anne McQueen and Andrew Bartlett to Blooms. The sale was finalised on May 31.
“I have been practicing in Dapto for 45 years. Blooms will provide the same professional service to what our customers are used to in the pharmacy since Dapto Mall opened in March 1987. This will obviously be appreciated by not only our excellent staff, but also our loyal customers,” he said.
Mr Abba said he will miss the daily interaction with people in the pharmacy but after qualifying 52 years ago it was time to retire, travel and continue his community work as a Rotarian.
Funscape business expands
Colin Bloomfield and Brett Baker, of Wollongong business Funscape, are opening their fourth venue this week. The activity centre entrepreneurs presently run Revolution Laser Arena, Hangdog Climbing Gym and Hangtime Trampoline Park in Wollongong. Now they are opening another Revolution Laser Arena in the Narellan Town Centre.
At The Illawarra Connection the Mr Baker and Mr Bloomfield also spoke about their plans to open a fifth venue in the Wollongong CBD later in 2017. It is a new concept featuring Escape Rooms, Karaoke Rooms and a Cocktail Bar.
Developing Leadership
The Leadership Illawarra Program has announced a new partnership with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Illawarra to support leaders through the MentorMe program. RDA Illawarra chief executive Debra Murphy said it means JCI Illawarra will provide its successful MentorMe program to Leadership Illawarra participants.
New role for Kellaway
The Illawarra Connection board member Michelle Kellaway was recently promoted to the role of Head of Qantas Assure. Qantas Assure is the online health and travel insurance arm of Qantas that was launched in March 2016.
Women in MBA
Sydney Business School reminded members of The Illawarra Connection this week about the opportunity for female leaders in the region to take part in the Women in MBA Program. TIC members were told organisations can sponsors a female employee to undertake an MBA at either the Sydney or Wollongong campus, for an investment of between 15 and 50 per cent. Sydney Business School will match the funding.
Postgraduate scholarship
Applications for the 2018 joint Sydney Business School/The Illawarra Connection postgraduate scholarship open on July 3. The scholarship provides for a TIC member or an employee within their organisation to undertake postgraduate study across several areas.
Beach Ice Skating
Destination Wollongong has welcomed the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach plan to transform its rooftop terrace into a winter wonderland for the month of July. The Deck will soon become an open air ice skating rink. The hotel is offering sessions throughout the month with each ticket including skate hire.
