McInnes’ own red-hot start to the season for the Dragons saw his name mentioned alongside Peats in the lead-up to Blues selection as Robbie Farah’s hold on the jumper loosened.
It was Peats who got the call after a groin injury ruled out Peter Wallace, with the Titans hooker making 53 tackles in Blues victory.
“Being a South Sydney boy, he got his chance at another club and he’s taken it with both hands and is playing Origin now which is great,” McInnes said.
“When I was first around Souths in 2013 I was in the squad with him and he’s such a hard trainer, really fit, really competitive and he was really good with me.
“Being Souths juniors we bonded over that a bit.
“I’m happy to see the way he’s playing and he did a great job for NSW which was great to see.”
