Janet Walsh shed a few tears when notified her late husband Brian Walsh would receive a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours this year.

‘’I was very honoured when I first received it but it made me cry because he is not here to enjoy it unfortunately,’’ Mrs Walsh said.
Mr Walsh, who passed away on February 13, 2016 was awarded an OAM for service to the community of Shellharbour.
The 2006 Shellharbour Citizen of the Year winner was on the Albion Park Show Society committee for 50 years. He was also a life member and former president (1969-71) of the society.
He was also the founding member of Shellharbour Apex Club and Shellharbour City U3A.
‘’Brian loved people. He just wanted to do what he could to help,’’ Mrs Walsh said.
‘’Wherever he went he raised much need money for worthy organisations.
‘’He did this at St Mary’s High School in Wollongong and particularly with the St Vincent de Paul Society in Albion Park.’’

- Shellharbour’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year for 2006.
