Second-placed Wests’ only points dropped in 12 rounds was a loss to leaders Albion Park and 1-1 draw with Robertson.

‘’It’ll be a tight battle,’’ Johnston predicted.

‘’We’re fortunate to have our NSW Country player Helena Tobbe and ex New Zealand international Piki McCreedy back after they didn’t play against Robertson first up. A big focus for us will be shutting down their top midfielder Ashley Wright.’’

Wests still have a catch-up game to play and last weekend had double-header wins over Avondale 2-1 and FigDerra 11-0, with Tobbe scoring six goals. Robertson are coming off a 1-1 draw against Uni and are three points behind Wests and nine adrift of Albion Park. In Saturday’s round 13, Jamberoo take on Avondale  (2.45pm); it’s FigDerra vs Gerringong (2.45pm); Dapto vs University (4pm); Fairy Meadow vs Albion Park (4pm) and Robertson vs Wests Illawarra (5.15pm).

In mens hockey, the Illawarra Masters over 40s won the State Championships in Newcastle last weekend.
