Tournament success: Best n Beds Warrawong manager Stephen Morrison with the Corrimal over 50s Pairs winners Graham Dal Santo and Ernie Martin.

The composite team of Ernie Martin and Graham Dal Santo were the best of just four unbeaten teams to win Corrimal Bowling Club’s popular over 50s Pairs on Monday.

Martin and Towradgi-based team skip Dal Santo won their three 13 ends games with a combined +29 shot differential, but the tournament proved to be a thriller and was not decided until the final bowl of the last end from the leading teams.

Dal Santo’s 18 shot win in their final match propelled them to the title after Woonona’s Robbie Baker and Jack Forbes claimed their third win by eight shots to finish with 3 wins+28 –  just a shot behind the winners.

Warren Haviland and Col Cheadle were  leading the  tournament on 2 wins+38 heading into their final match but lost by a shot, 17-16 to Towradgi pair Gary McDonald and Rod Buust.

Buust’s tense victory was enough for them to claim third spot (3 wins+14) and allowed Dapto Citizens’ Brett Pieper and Rick Malley to finish fourth on 3 wins+9.

The $1330 over 50s tournament was sponsored by Best n Beds and proved a great success, with a capacity 28 teams, including four from the host club.

Corrimal BC will run another over 50s Pairs tournament later this year.
