Hopefully you are enjoying your holiday to Mars and the weather up there is treating you well.
Perhaps when you return to earth you can explain why the hell Illawarra Hawks’ centre AJ Ogilvy is not in the Boomers squad for the FIBA Asia Cup in August.
The Illawarra Hawks’ star centre has proven himself over the last couple of years to be the best big man in the country.
The three-time NBL First Team star has had an almost faultless last two seasons in the national league.
There are players in the current squad who can not hold a candle to the proven quality. There are big men in that squad AJ wipes the floor with week in, week out. And this is not the first time you have snubbed him.
Firstly, a declaration.
The O’Brien clan are unashamed fans of AJ to the point our nine-year-old refused to wear anything else last weekend but her AJ singlet to a performance or Frozen On Ice at the WEC in the middle of blasted winter.
That’s hardcore Andrej. She’s hardcore mate. More hardcore than your boys’ recent international performances.
Unlike your many achievements, my basketball cred probably starts and stops with being voted best afield (quite controversially, admittedly) in the under 14 Ulverstone Basketball Association midweek roster grand final in 1986. I won a pair of socks.
Yet, I’d stake my credibility against yours to say that AJ Ogilvy deserves not only a spot in the Boomers squad, but a place in the team.
From memory your boys fell a little bit short of the mark at the Olympics so one would have thought you’d be doing your utmost to ensure this outing is anything but another failure.
Love and regards, the O’Brien clan, Illawarra
