Terry Campese, who played 139 games for the Canberra Raiders, will run two coaches clinics this week, starting at the Flinders Oval on Tuesday from 6-7pm.
“Terry will basically be running a question and answer seminar at each venue, talking about his experiences in rugby league, his transition from playing into coaching and what drills he finds effective,” NRL game development officer Jono Dallas said.
“The whole point of these session is developing our coaches, of both our junior and senior teams.
“Last year, we ran just one session with Alan Tongue and Ben Cross at Wests Illawarra and this year we decided to turn it into a tour and give more coaches access to these great minds of the games.
“Terry Campese and John Skandalis have already done one of these sessions down in Bega earlier in the year and it was well received.”
Former-Kangaroo and NSw Blue Campese, who has already visited Nowra and Batemans Bay as part of the tour, will also run a session at WIN Stadium on Wednesday, from 6-7pm.
“Having just returned from playing in the English Super League and taking over as the captain/coach of the Queanbeyan Blues, Terry can relate to plenty of the coaches that will be in attendance,” Dallas said.
“He will discuss his transition into this level of coaching, which is a level a lot of these coaches will aspire to be at one day.
“Obviously Terry has more knowledge of senior football but he will have plenty of drills that junior coaches can use to develop their players skills and help their transition into senior grades.”
As an added bonus, the St George Illawarra Dragons have agreed to accompany Campese at both these sessions, to offer even more insight and opinions for all coaches in the Illawarra area.
NRL assistant coaches and former-NRL stars Dean Young and Ben Hornby will be in attendance on Tuesday, June 27, while head coach of the Illawarra RLFC NSW Cup team, Mathew Head has been added to the line-up for Wednesday, June 28 in Wollongong.
