You may not know the names of their songs but it’s likely you’ve heard the Sydney trio’s name before.

In January the group made national headlines after stuntman Johann Ofner died on the set of a music video they were filming.

They delayed the tour and instead rallied to support Ofner’s family including a tribute concert in Brisbane.

Jonathan Notley, aka MC Bliss, said the tragedy rocked the group to the core and still gives him “shivers” when thinking about it.

While they couldn’t change what happened he said he was happy to be able to “bring a little bit of light in that dark situation” and help Ofner’s family celebrate his life rather than mourn his death

“You’ve got to come together in these times, try and be stronger as a unit. At the end of the day you’ve only got each other,” he said.

Now Notley and his mates – Max MacKinnon, aka MC Eso, and Tarik Ejjamai, aka DJ Izm – are finally hitting the road.

They are visiting 28 Australian cities before embarking on their first tour of New Zealand, and then another huge tour of Canada.

“When we were coming up as a young band we built a lot of following [by] really doing the hard yards and taking hip hop to places who had never had it before,” Notley said.

“It’s been one hell of a ride, one crazy rollercoaster, it’s been insane.

“It started off really grassroots, the three of us in a little hatchback driving all over the country doing the hard yards. Hitting every little regional town and shaking every single person’s hands who came out to the show.”

While creating a name for himself with the band in the early days, Notely also went to film school and always had a digicam handy.

He’s hoping to one day put out a documentary that would not only detail the evolution of Bliss n Eso from high school mates to superstars, but also the evolution of Australian hip hop over the last 20 years.

“We, alongside a couple of other groups, pioneered the scene from back in day.” Notley said.

“The genre [has] built into something huge now and to be at forefront of that has helped but I guess you’ve got to make good music as well, you gotta make music that connects with people.”
