Jeff Grey got amongst them on Nitro Charters out of Narooma and pulled his biggest bluefin to date with a nice 30 kilogram fish.
In a great show of sportsmanship, they were called over by a local charter boat Play Station.
The charter boat had found the school and all the clients were onto a fish each and some monster ‘barrells’ were being fought, lost and released.
A little further south a Bermagui a guy boated a massive southern bluefin tuna that went well over 160 kilos.
But there were also a few yellowfin caught as well last week closer to home, around the waters of Jervis Bay.
One fish pulling the scales to an impressive 68 kilos.
Hopefully these schools of fish keep pushing up the coast to local waters very soon as there will be no shortage of anglers chasing them this weekend that is for sure.
Closer to shore, the reds are still about in good numbers both in the shallows and on the deeper reefs as well.
First light and last light has seen some cracking big reds in the shallows under 10 metres depth.
The bite is short, fast and hard with no big numbers but excellent size whereas as out in the deeper reefs no monsters but plenty of 3 kilo pannies and heaps of them.
The barracouta are still about but many crews reported that a couple of relocation moves and they managed to get away from them and onto some nice fish.
There have been plenty of big blue mowies and excellent sized pigfish as a bycatch as well.
The northern flathead drifts have still been producing good fish with size being a lot better than previously.
Stanwell Park and Bulli Sands fishing very well last Sunday for near bag limit captures.
For the mulloway gurus, it has been very quiet on the beaches this last week. (Well, that is the reports across the shop counter – wink wink.)
