Beaten 99-82 in the first leg of their road trip on Saturday, the Hawks fought hard against the Crusaders.
But even 23 points from Beagley couldn’t seal success, going down 78-76.
Beagley, a former NBL development player, was held to just five points against Maitland.
They were unable to stop the Mustangs’ Tyler Monroe, who finished with 37 points and 16 rebounds in 35 minutes on court.
And the assignments only get tougher for the Hawks, who meet Waratah League competition leaders Sydney Comets on Sunday.
The Comets have lost just one game all season.
The Illawarra Hawks women’s team had a weekend bye.
