Entries have closed for the vintage pin-up pageant with places full but patrons can still grab a ticket and an op-shop dress for a night of fun and rock’n’roll dancing at Corrimal RSL on July 22.
Sarah Rodgers of Horsley is excited, and nervous, at entering her first pageant at the age of 42.
She’s one of 10 women who have entered from the Illawarra, outskirts of Sydney and as far south as Bega.
I really love the femininity, fun and frivolity that goes with pin-up.
- Sarah Rodgers
“I’ve worn pin-up for a long time and I really love the femininity, fun and frivolity that goes with pin-up,” she said.
“So I decided ‘why not’. It was a smaller, local pageant as well so I thought it would be a good place to start out.”
Ms Rodgers’ pin-up name (something every lady must have) is Miss Blue Belle Kitty, inspired by her ginger cat.
Elvis impersonator John Collins will be performing, fresh from competing at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Surfers Paradise, with two other Elvis look-alikes – Brody Finlay and Anthony Fenech,
Other 50’s style acts performing include Johnny and the Easy Riders, the Starlite Showgirls and Miss Pearl Lee Shells.
“We’re really excited to showcase a whole range of different talents,” organiser Rachael Hutchinson said.
Miss Picture Perfect Pageant, Corrimal RSL, July 22, 7pm, 168 Princes Highway in Corrimal. Tickets $20
