The girlfriend of a North Wollongong man charged over an alleged one-punch assault outside Pepes on the Beach in April has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from her own set of altercations that night.
Kayla Todd, 22, told Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday she was so drunk she remembered little of what occurred on the night of April 16, but admitted she had assaulted two different women and tried to punch a security guard.
Court documents reveal she and her boyfriend, aspiring rap artist Jake Sara, had been drinking at the popular Cliff Road venue when an argument broke out between them and another group of patrons after three females in that group decided to use the male toilets.
Todd poured her drink over one of the women then pulled another’s hair.
Security eventually broke up the scuffle. A security guard picked Todd up around the waist and carried her outside.
She tried to punch the guard when he put her down, police said.
Sara had also been ejected by this stage.
It is alleged he set upon a man with whom he’d had an earlier altercation inside the venue and punched him in the back of the head, causing the victim to fall to the ground and hit his head on the pavement.
Meantime, Todd and a friend drove from the scene.
They were returning to pick Sara up a short time later when Todd got into another confrontation by the roadside with one of the women from earlier in the night.
Todd pushed and punched the girl until witnesses broke the pair up.
The injured girl later identified Todd as her attacker when police arrived at the scene.
Officers arrested Todd the following month after reviewing CCTV footage. She was charged with assault and affray charges.
In court on Tuesday, Todd’s lawyer, Tony WIlliamson, said his client was a child care worker who hoped to study social science in the future.
Magistrate Claire Girotto accepted that Todd had no prior criminal convictions and was sorry for what she’d done.
“It wasn’t your finest moment was it?” she said.
She fined Todd $450 and placed her on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
Sara’s matter will return to court on August 22 for a hearing date to be set.
