But nowadays Howard is a well-known bee expert. He will run a bee keeping course in Wollongong and the Southern Highlands on July 15-16, with an emphasis on maintaining beehives and extracting honey.
The course is for amateur and professional beekeepers and will allow participants to work as an apiarist once the course is complete.
Participants will undertake hands-on activities in all aspects of keeping bees, including building and maintaining a bee hive, using a smoker, producing honey and caring for bee health.
The nationally recognised qualification (Certificate III in Beekeeping) will run every third Saturday of the month for seven months in North Wollongong and a farm in Berrima.
It is offered by Fusion Training Solutions. More details at 4228 3588.
