A two-out bottom of the ninth wild pitch gifted Northern Pirates a 4-3 victory over Dapto Chiefs, while Illawarra baseball premiers Wests Cardinals were too good for Berkeley Eagles at Cringila Park.

Pirates’ Kieran Harris scored from third base on Mitch Thompson’s wild pitch to Kyle Dutton to break a 3-3 deadlock at Dalton Park.

Chiefs led 3-1 but were pegged back by a Pirates’ run in the sixth and eighth, setting  up Harris to score in dramatic circumstances in the ninth.

Paul Cuthbertson (3-4) and Bob Twedt (2-4, double, RBI) led Pirates’ hitting while Mitch Thompson went 2-4 including a double for Chiefs.

In the other game, Cards led Eagles 8-0 after two innings en-route to a solid 10-6 win.

Scott Sartori (2-3, 2RBIs) led Cards’ hitting, with Tim Atherton going 3-5 for Eagles including a triple and 3RBIs.

Ladder: Northern Pirates (9-2), Berkeley Eagles (5-4-1), Wests Cardinals (5-6-1), Dapto Chiefs (1-8-2).
