Emergency services were called to the crash scene, about 20km south-west of Nowra, just before 8am where a four-wheel-drive and truck had collided.
The driver of the four-wheel-drive died at the scene.
The truck continued on after the accident for around 50 metres, running off the road, before rolling and jack-knifing near roadside bush.
Ambulance Rescue paramedics had to cut the driver of the truck, a man believed to be in his 60s, from the wreckage.
He was stabilised at the scene by paramedics and then airlifted by the NSW Ambulance Toll Rescue Helicopter from Albion Park to St George Hospital.
He suffered lower back, chest and pelvic injuries.
Braidwood Road remains closed and the Transport Management Centre advises using the Princes Highway and Kings Motorway as an alternative.
Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Turpentine Road, then the Princes Highway and BTU Road.
Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Albatross Road, BTU Road, the Princes Highway and Turpentine Road.
