Commercial carrier JetGo stopped in to Albion Park to show off the jets which will soon start operating to put the Illawarra back on the national passenger flight map.
Direct flights to Melbourne and Brisbane are scheduled to begin in October.
The service is still subject to final regulatory approval.
JetGo and airport operator the Shellharbour council are proposing nine return flights per week to Melbourne, and six return flights per week to Brisbane.
So far the service proposal has been strongly received locally.
As always the proof will be in the pudding but so far the recipe being proposed is looking like a main course winner.
Certainly when you add up the extra costs of baggage, parking and travelling to a major airport, it doesn’t take much for the fares being asked to start to make good value.
Good value and a comfortable alternative, but people will have to vote with their feet and use the service or risk losing the service as quickly as it has appeared.
“I watched it take off today. It flew directly over the top of me at the end of the runway and was very surprised at how quiet it was considering it is a jet. It was impressive,” a local reader commented on our Facebook page.
It certainly appears commercial passenger flights from Albion Park are ready to go up, up and away.’

TURIA AN INSPIRATION
On Friday, July 21, Turia Pitt will address a sold out function in Wollongong.
The Illawarra Women in Business lunch at the City Beach Function Centre has been sold out for a long time and the city is clearly keen to hear Turia address her topic of “Unleash the Tiger Within”.
The South Coast resident was competing in an ultra marathon in Western Australia’s WA region when she became trapped in a grass fire and sustained burns to over 65 per cent of her body.
Since then and over 200 operations later, Turia has proven an inspiration to all with her recovery.
Turia and partner Michael Hoskin are expecting their first bub due in December. What an incredible story.
