The rising bantamweight star secured his passage to the worlds by by claiming the Oceania title in June.
“I knew I had to qualify to get to Germany and it was good to win my first international tournament [as a senior],” Goodman said.
“You always get a bit nervous before you fight but it was nothing out of the ordinary for me. I just went in there, tried to be confident and relaxed and stick to the game plan. That’s usually what works for me.”
Goodman went into the tournament fresh off a training camp with the Boxing Australia team at the famed US Olympic Training Centre at Colorado Springs.
“It was a really good training camp,” Goodman said.
“I did plenty of sparring against the US team. I learned a lot and the facilities were second to none so it was an unreal experience.”
It has him primed for the upcoming world championships and, having won bronze in his last attempt as a junior, he’s set his sights on the top of the dais.
“It’d be a massive thing to go there and win a medal and hopefully it can be a gold one,” Goodman said.
“I’ve still go that burning desire to get that gold medal and I’ll be giving myself the best chance to get it.
“That’s my motivation, I don’t want another bronze one.
“I don’t think anyone’s ever won a gold in the seniors as an Australian so it’d be unreal to do that.”
