Despite a wide run, the five-year-old hung tough to prevail in a blanket finish and claim the Club Central Benchmark 70 Handicap (1300m).
Peter and Paul Snowden’s Chavish got out late to snatch second, with Witches third.
It was the Coolcraft’s first victory for more than 11 months.
“I think things have to go his way to win and today they did,” Markwell said.
“It was impressive to see him win.”
Coolcraft’s win was Markwell’s 11th for the season which sees her finish six victories clear of her nearest rival Kerry Parker (5 wins).
Theresa Bateup (4 wins), Mick Tubman (3 wins) and Stephen Hill (3 wins) were next best. Chris Waller wrapped up the overall trainers premiership.
