Wollongong City Council is considering an application for a nanobrewery in a Meadow Street location that was previously a bakery.
The venue would brew a maximum of 1000 litres of beer a week in two 500-litre batches, according to the development application.
The proposed venue would bring in food to sell alongside the beers that are brewed in-house.
The proposed venue aimed to “provide a bespoke food and beverage experience to the local Tarrawanna and northern suburbs community”, according to the development application.
“Craft beer will be sold onsite and offered with beer-matched quality local produce to maximise the customer’s enjoyment,” the application said.
“The craft beer and light snacks will be developed with locals' palates in mind and will rotate according to seasonal availability and popularity.”
Customers will also be able to sample the range of beers onsite and also get refillable containers – known as growlers and squealers – filled with beer to take away.
The application considers take-away sales will be the “primary point of alcohol sale”.
