The crash caused extensive damage to a red Hyundai that was stopped at the Hume Motorway traffic lights Thursday, about 8.15am.
Wilton woman Susan Norbury was on her way to work when she witnessed the crash.
She said the truck was travelling at speed when it sideswiped her own car as she waited to turn right onto the motorway. The truck – which she described as a B Double semi trailer – then crashed into the Hyundai beside her, forcing it into a guard rail.
“The semi trailer driver slowed down slightly after the impact and then sped off,” Ms Norbury said, in a post to social media.
“The driver in the small car was subsequently taken to hospital.
“Police are now trying to track down this low life semi driver.
“I was unhurt but badly shaken but the driver in the small car had obviously sustained some injuries and was lucky he wasn't killed.”
The Hyundai’s 45-year-old male driver was transported to Campbelltown Hospital in a stable condition, complaining of back and neck pain.
Police would like to speak to the driver of the truck, or anyone who may know the truck or its driver.
In a description released by police on Friday afternoon, the truck is described as a white, Western Star truck with quad dog trailer with alloy buckets and a torn tarp on top.
