The Wollongong Writers Festival has put out a save the date for their program launch at Wollongong Art Gallery on Friday August 18.

Award-winning writer Merlinda Bobis (author of a number of books including Locust Girl: A Lovesong and The Solemn Lantern Maker) will be in conversation with journalist and broadcaster Caroline Baum at the event.
The pair will discuss the festival’s theme for 2017: “can words change the world”.
“The focus of this program is the social change that writers can affect, and is also a nod to the power of narrative to change lives and spark revolution,” organisers said.
Philippines-born Bobis, who lives in Canberra, came to Australia as a student 25 years ago, taught creative writing at Wollongong University for 20 years, and is the author of novels, stories, poetry and radio dramas in English, Filipino and her native language, Bikol.
The festival will held in November but host a number of events in the months leading up.
It will include sessions and workshops around various forms of writing and allow readers, publishers, artists and budding writers to gain experience, skills and meet other creatives.
Anyone is welcome to the free event at Wollongong Art Gallery, beginning at 7pm.
