Yours and Owls have teamed up with Destination Wollongong to curate a nine-day spring celebration of what they say makes the city culturally brilliant.
The Fringe culminates with Y&O music festival across the October long weekend, and while that may not be to everyone’s liking there is something for all in the days preceding.
- Taste Orange food and wine festival plus Hackagong have both been cancelled.
OPEN MIC COMEDY
Ever wanted to see where it all starts for comedians?
Bec Charlwood is MC for the night. Since beginning her comedy career just a few short years ago she’s gone from strength to strength.
The feature act for this event is Marty Bright: a tie dye wearing, globe wandering, silly billy. Join him as he picks apart the world with his whimsy, optimism and unique perspective on the world around us.

COOKING CLASSES
Foodies wanting to learn something different can get their Greek on and be taught the art of making dolmades from scratch.
Wonder woman, artist and foodie Nina will show you how to pick your leaves to rolling and cooking.
You will then make Greek Cypriot sides to accompany the dolmades and enjoy a lovely lunch. This class is for vegetarian and vegans and is gluten free!

SYDNEY UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL –DIRECTOR’S CUT
If independent and experimental films are more your forte, the best of the Sydney Underground Film Festival will be screened on the opening weekend.
The festival aims to change an ingrained culture of cinematic complacency and revitalise an enthusiasm for cinema.
Catch a selection of shorts films as well as a feature as chosen by the SUFF director. This is an 18+ event.

GREEN FLICKS
Young South Coast film-makers will get their chance in the spotlight with short films on the changing environment – the short list of the Green Flicks competition will be on show.
It’s an environmental short film competition for 12-24-year-olds living in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
September 22, 6:30pm, iAccelerate Building at the Innovation Campus, FREE.
ABORIGINAL CULTURE DAY
In keeping with this year’s community minded programming, Indigenous workshops in spear making, weaving and gardening have been scheduled at the the Wollongong Botanic Garden.
Experience aboriginal dancing and singing performances, a tour of the bush tucker garden, cooking demonstration and tasting as well as hands on participation in a workshop of your choice.

POETRY SLAM
Enough Said Poetry Slam is a slamily where you can share your poems/words/stories/etc, listen to other people share theirs, click for your favs and maybe even win a prize!
This month, we're a wildcard heat for the Australian Poetry Slam (APS), which means we're sending slam winner to the state final in Sydney in October.
This is an 18+ event.

LIFE OFF THE GRID
A talk, a feast and a tour.
Meet Gen and Annie from Autumn Farm. An off-grid, small-farming, food-loving, straw bale-building family, with a bit of craft, feminism and cancer thrown in for good measure.
Join them for a delicious lunch at the iAcclerate rooftop to hear their story of balancing parenthood with cancer treatment, no showers with learning how to poultry farm, and everything in between. Followed by a tour of the Sustainable Building Research Centre and Flame Tree House.
September 29, 1:30pm, iAccelerate Building at the Innovation Campus
Comedy, concerts, rock’n’roll and surf photography exhibitions are also in the mix throughout.
The University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus, Wollongong Art Gallery and the Wollongong Science Centre and Planetarium are the primary venues for the fringe.
