At Cringila Park Dapto Chiefs proved their previous 5-nil shut out over premiers Wests Cardinals was no fluke winning 12 runs to 10 over seven innings.
Chiefs also overcame an early player ejection to eventually snatch the game, scoring four runs at the top of the final innings.
Usual Chiefs' starter Tim Inglis again was the difference, with his off speed pitching this time coming in halfway through the fourth innings, after Cards had put up 9 runs over two productive digs.
The Chiefs batters edged their way back scoring two runs in the fifth to narrow the gap to just one run.
With the game on the line Inglis then shut down the Red Birds offence in the sixth and seventh innings to give his team only their third win of the season.
Hits from Chiefs' Troy Green (two for four) and Craig Leighton (two for three) were crucial with Leighton also gaining a game high five runs-batted-in while Cardinals' Joel Thompson, Alex Osborne and Daniel Moss all hit 2-4 and collected half of their side's 12 hits for the match.
Luckily for Chiefs their three errors to Cardinals' one did not cost them in the end.
Over at Fred Finch Park, the Northern Pirates and Berkeley Eagles clash was eagerly anticipated after both sides could not be separated the previous week and included 12 innings in their two-all draw.
Any similarity, however, vanished after the second innings when the Eagles' offence put on seven runs that stunned Pirates out of the game. Eagles starter and Australian representative Tim Atherton was virtually untouchable in his four innings of work striking out seven for just one hit and no walks.
Blake Barnard then was handed the relieving role and was equally effective tossing three innings for just one hit and no walks but received good support from his fielders.
Only the Bucs' Asa Schuster was able to make any impression with the bat hitting 2-3. Best for both sides though was Eagles' Aaron Tritton who had 3-3 that included a double and two runs batted in.
The win consolidates the Eagles' second place position with a 7-2-5 record and almost seals a major semi-final position in three weeks time.
Pirates remain in first place (11-1-3) and have still locked up the minor premiership while Cardinals 6-1-9 will see them remain in third place. Chiefs 3-2-10 are fourth but take more confidence into finals time knowing they can compete with the other sides.
