Joining names like Matildas gun Caitlin Foord, five Illawarra young guns have earned selection in NSW All Schools teams. In another fine example of the Illawarra’s ability to produce top talent, four boys and one girl were officially named in three different state squads.

Figtree High School student Phil Cancar and Holy Spirit College’s Jackson Mortimer both made the Boys Under 16s.

Margaux Chauvet (Holy Spirit) made the Girls Under 18s while Braeden Kludass (Holy Spirit) and Wollongong Wolves youth player Brodie Clarkson (Westfields Sports High) were selected for the Boys Under 19s.

Edmund Rice College student Jacob Gjorsevski was also named as a shadow player for the Boys Under 19s to complete a remarkable list of local talent who caught selectors eyes.

“It’s been a while since we have had this many,” NSW Pacific School Games team manager Brendan Fotheringham said

“With All Schools selection, it is probably the best for a long time.

“I have gone away with a couple, maybe two or three in the past, but not this many.

“I think it’s because we have up, with the under 16s as well. It has been a while, but would be up there with the best representation we’ve had in a while.”

The three teams will play at tournaments to be held later this year.

The Boys Under 19s will participate in the Tri-State Tournament on Thursday and Friday next week. Fotheringham will coach the team in matches against Queensland and South Australia.

Meanwhile, the Under 16s Boys and Under 18s Girls will play in the 2017 Pacific School Games to be held in Adelaide this December.

“The Pacific School Games is a once in a lifetime thing for those kids,” Fotheringham said.

“I think the NSW team is about 700 players all up and it may be the last one in Adelaide.”

The Primary Schools teams will be selected after the State Schools Championships this month.
