“Yeah, a bit like taming wild horses,” Hayes says with a laugh.
“We’ve worked on a few things, but the boys are likely to get a bit excited and use it out there anyway. Our form has been great, I’m really happy with how we’re looking, but obviously we need to be doing it in finals.”
The old foes meet again on Sunday, with Albion Park looking to put an exclamation point on winning the minor premiership with victory.
Before last weekend’s bye, Park outgunned Wests to win 10-6, Kookaburras striker Kieran Govers proving a devastating force with a personal tally of five goals.
Their tally of 94 goals is 32 clear of Uni, though the reigning champions boast the league’s best defensive record.
In the other men’s game, Robertson will be out to bounce back against Fairy Meadow, after slumping to a 19-nil shellacking at the hands of Wests.
In the women’s competition, Wests and Albion Park meet in the late game on Saturday, a result which will likely determine the minor premiership.
Park are two points clear of Wests, with two rounds remaining before the finals.
Fourth-placed Railways Greys are expecting a close tussle against fifth-placed Robertson, while Uni meet Avondale.
