Owner Susan Phillips said she deserved a little bit of star treatment for being such an excellent employee for so long. And Mrs Tolhurst said she is not planning on leaving any time soon.
“I don’t know if I will be doing it for another 30 years. But I love everything about the job. I love the interaction with people. Coming into work every day is great,” she said.
But it all started by chance. She used the laundry herself and was walking past one day when the owner at that time called her in and asked if she wanted a job. The works has changed considerably over the years. She recalls the old green machines that used to be loaded with 20 cent coins and many customers would do their own laundry. But now all the washing machines and dryers are all modern and computerised. And that has meant a constant learning curve.
“It started as a laundry. But then Sue took on the wet-cleaning side of things which is the brand new way of cleaning. But I have customers who still come in here who have been coming for as long as I have been here.”
