It’s staged by local tastemakers Yours and Owls – the outfit behind the city’s largest music festival of the same name – the all ages event to be held on the vacant area behind the Science Centre at Squires Way on Saturday.
“Some of the staging stuff [the crew are] just going to hold off as long as they can [in case the wind] rips through it overnight,” co-organiser Ben Tillman said.
“Anything that will potentially get whipped away will go up tomorrow morning.”
Gale force winds wreaked havoc on their Yours and Owls Festival in October 2016, bringing down fences and other fixtures the night before the event.
The only thing Tillman advised was for patrons to bring a jumper for the winter chill though outdoor heating and warm drinks and food would be available.
More than 3500 people have already bought tickets to watch the seven bands on show, with several hundred tickets still left as of midday Friday.
Danny Harley of The Kite String Tangle (TKST) is pumped to be performing on the lineup with Violent Soho and Cloud Control, among others.
This event will almost be like a home-coming of sorts as the musician was born in Wollongong – though grew up in Brisbane.
“I have to write it on my birthplace on heaps of documents all the time,” Harley laughed.
After years of playing in bands and touring without major success the musician is finally gaining momentum with his current project, TKST.
“It was in the first or second song I released that started getting [played on radio], then I started getting festival offers and the tours started selling out ... that happened all within a year,” Harley said.
