The epic final day encounter which will decide the title is potentially the biggest regular season match the Illawarra Premier League has seen in more than a decade.
It’s a game that deserves to be celebrated.
Everyone in the football community should have the chance to see it and that’s simply not possible if there is five other final round fixtures on at the same time. Shoot-out understands Football South Coast has made an effort to move the game to a later time slot on Sunday to allow fans from other matches the opportunity to get to the game.
If they are willing to change the time of the clash, why not just change the day?
Move every other fixture to Saturday afternoon and give everyone in the local football community who wants to see the clash the opportunity to.
The game deserves that kind of top billing. I know it’s against football convention to not have every final round game played at the same time.
However, the result of this blockbuster has no real impact on every other club in the competition. Regardless of the result of the match, Olympic and Bulli will still finish one-two in the league.
Only one of them will get to lift the silverware.
Shoot-out has talked with coaches from both clubs about the match for several weeks now.
Both Bulli’s Matt Bailey and Olympic’s Rob Birkin agree that a stand alone game is what the title decider deserves.
And why shouldn’t they think that?
Both coaches’ clubs have enjoyed outstanding campaigns in the region’s top division. There is no better way to end what’s been a fantastic season for both of them then with a match between the two in front of a massive crowd.
Making it a stand alone game should be a chance that is too good to refuse.
It’s the perfect advertisement for the local competition.
The governing body have five days to make it happen.
Let’s hope for everyone’s sake that they don’t let the opportunity pass by.
