Hayden from Compleat Angler reckoned the poor weather kept a lot of anglers at home most of this past week. On the bright side last weekend was perfect for kite flying and boat and gear maintenance.

As the swell dropped following the conditions, a few anglers hit the water on Tuesday and Wednesday to target reds on the inshore reefs and a couple of nice fish to 3kg came up.
Major issue still is that berleying is not an option as barracouta are about and any hint of a berley trail draws these toothy critters straight into fraying lines and anglers’ nerves.
Lake Illawarra has some nice big winter whiting, milling around the sand flats but live bait is the key, especially squirt worms or nippers that are the gun estuary bait as there really isn’t any estuary species that won’t scoff down a nipper.
