AMCA is not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers and president Tony Blain said the the three-day program will attract people from around Australia and overseas. It will include many motorcycle brands, makes and models that are 35 years or older.
The highlight of the inaugural AMCA Australia National Classic, Vintage and Antique Motorcycle event will be an auction of more than $1 million worth of vintage motorcycles.
There is a people’s choice motorcycle show, judging of machines, seminars, motorcycle demonstrations and an antique motorcycle swap meet.
AMCA USA chief judge Don Dzurick will guide the judging process and the auction will feature an array of motocyles such as a 1929 Harley-Davidson 2 Cam JDH, a 1940 Indian four cylinder, a Cool Norton Commando Café Racer, BSA Rocket 3, Bultaco Mettrella and a G50 Matchless.
Mr Blain said such an all-inclusive vintage motorcycle event was a rarity.
He expects it will draw a broad range of people.
“We want to bring lovers of all kinds of antique motorcycles together to share stories and tips and show off their machines,” Mr Blain said.
“We have worked hard with Wollongong City Council Destination Wollongong and Bulli Showgrounds to make this event a reality and already there are signs we will be able to make this an annual event. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a vintage motorcycle enthusiast, just want to harness your inner James Dean or don’t know your Norton from your Bultaco, there will be something for everyone to marvel at.”
Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh said the national event was a perfect fit for Wollongong and could become an annual feature event.
“With the iconic Sea Cliff Bridge and Grand Pacific Drive, Wollongong is a motoring enthusiast’s ideal destination,” he said.
“Over the three-day weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to take in the show and explore the diverse driving experiences we have to offer. This is a major event for the region and has the potential to promote Wollongong around the country and increase our overseas presence.”
The event runs from Friday to Sunday at Bulli Showgrounds. Gates open at 6am Saturday and 8am Sunday. Viewing for the auction is between 11am and 3pm on Saturday followed immediately by the auction and camping is available on-site.
