For Wollongong woman Jenny Bayly, the someone you know is her mother and daughter.
Mrs Bayly’s mother unfortunately passed away 18 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.
‘’My daughter is thankfully alive and well and working as an artist,’’ the 64-year-old said.
‘’She is married and has a child and life is good.’’
This year marks 31 years of Daffodil Day in NSW. The national day of hope for a cancer-free future will be held on Friday, August 25.
The Cancer Council is encouraging people across the Illawarra to support the event by volunteering, buying merchandise or making a donation.
There is 39 Illawarra sites from which to buy merchandise, with organisers hoping to raise $2.1 million in NSW.
‘’By supporting Daffodil Day today, Illawarra locals contribute to life-saving cancer research, prevention programs, support services and advocacy programs,’’ Cancer Council NSW community relations coordinator Phoebe Collins said.
‘’Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, with one in two Australians predicted to be diagnosed by age 85. Get out there, wear a pin, and give some fresh daffodils to someone you know.’’
This is the 11th straight year Mrs Bayly is running and organising a Daffodil Day event in the Illawarra.
‘’I think I’ve been very fortunate in my life and volunteering is a great way to give back to the community,’’ she said.
