The Feast Farmers and Foodies Market has taken eight months for organisers Claire Roberts and Kerrie Humphrey to get off the ground.
Ms Humphrey said they felt the area was in need of a weekly market because “Shellharbour had become almost another city within a city with so many new estates”.
Produce available will include fruit, vegetables, olives, honey, deli-style meats, oils, plants and pre-prepared food.
Ms Roberts said consumers were increasingly opting to buy from markets to “connect” with local producers and growers.
“Many people like the concept of buying from smaller producers rather than big supermarkets,” she said.
“People are looking for food that is not prepackaged or over packaged. People are passionate about buying high quality food these days that support smaller growers and makers who offer competition to the big chain food outlets.”
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba will officially open the market this Saturday at 10am.
The market will run weekly from 8am – 12pm.
