As was the case in Melbourne when a new TK Maxx store recently opened a queue is expected before Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery officially cuts the ribbon. “9am is the kick off-time and we will be open all the way through to 9pm. We are very much looking forward to a big queue of shoppers waiting for the doors to open,” TK Maxx spokesperson Clare Willenberg said.
The new store is in the former Rebel sports store site which has been expanded but still remains accessible by two sets of escalators. Wollongong is the second TK Maxx store to open in the area following the introduction of the international retail chain to Australia in April and the former Trade Secret store at Warrawong being re-branded in May. Ms Willenberg said 50 more staff had been appointed and it was great to be the first new retailer to open in the new GPT redevelopment.
Wollongong Central manager Antony Keenan recently said the new David Jones store is likely to open in early October possibly the 5th.
Also opening at that time will be a new hair salon called Charli & Kate. It is the first stand alone business for Melissa Markovski who was the area manager for three hair salons previously run by her father Lube Markovski, of Grill’d.
The new TK Maxx store in Wollongong offers thousands of brands under one roof. The international retail chain operates over 500 stores across seven countries - the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands. It has 35 stores in Australia.
David Jones will reopen in the site previously occupied by Myer which closed on October 2, 2016. It has been completely redeveloped to what David Jones describes as a modern world-class retail store.
