A stunning image of the Bombo quarry at night has won the Illawarra Mercury’s reader photography competition.

Andrew Davis, of Mt Victoria, took the image which was created from a series of images stitched together.
The judges, consisting of the Mercury’s photographic team and a representative from Big Vision Print, scored Mr Davis’ image 33 out of 40.
Aaron Murphy’s image of a Lake Illawarra sunset and Chris Burgess’ lighthouse with light streams finished tied for second with 32.5 out of 40. The Illawarra Mercury’s photography competition received 570 entries before it closed on August 18. The field was narrowed down to 42 finalists.
“The selection of images was stunning and we truly thank everyone for their submissions,” Illawarra Mercury editor Julian O’Brien said.
Mr Davis will receive a night at Novotel Wollongong in a suite for two with breakfast (valued at $629). The two runners-up will receive a large professional print on canvas from Big Vision Print.
