The ‘‘cheery ukulele festival’’ with over 60 performances and workshops will be held at the Fraternity Club in Fairy Meadow on Sunday, September 17.
Groups from Sydney, the Central Coast, the South Coast and the Blue Mountains will congregate to entertain the community for free from 11am to 7pm.
Five rooms at the club will be dedicated to the performances of groups, solos, duos and combos.
And Unkle Cyril (aka John Maguire) and his fellow Swingaleles club members are on a mission to show the ukulele in its best light.
They plan on doing this by playing some sweet sounds on the four-stringed Hawaiian instruments at the Illawarra Ukulele Springstrum.
‘’As well as passionate beginners performing, there will be virtuoso ukulele artists, well known in the ukulele community, to entertain with their skills as they perform jazz, rock and classical music on the ukulele,’’ Unkle Cyril said.
There will also be ukulele merchandise and a competition for original ukulele songs.
Springstrum runs from 11am-7pm.
