On that day, the serious accident on Mt. Ousley Road along with the closure of Bulli Pass, created traffic chaos; reprising circumstances following a tragic fatal accident on Wednesday July 13, 2016.
Mount Ousley Road is already overladen with heavy freight vehicles in both directions. Add to this, the frustrated car and motorcycle component and the potential for delay causing incidents exists.
The other option for use Lawrence Hargraves Dve, is absolutely incapable of handling the traffic flow now imposed upon it. Consider the human implications present with trying to evacuate this region in the event of a naturally occurring, or man-made catastrophe; with a September 4 2017 or July 13 2016 situation in play.
An alternative already exists, one which could lessen the demand for road space on Mount Ousley. It is a rail system. One which with the completion of the Maldon to Dombarton link, improvements to track work between Bomaderry and Central and adequate services would add to the security and safety options for this region.

SPEEDING IN STREETS
While standing outside a council election booth on Saturday a subject discussed by a number of voters, but apparently not canvassed by candidates in the lead up to the elections was the amount of traffic that traveled at excessive speed in residential streets. People are in fear of accidents.
Speed signage does not solve the problem. Only traffic calmers such as speed humps do.
Recently an elderly gentleman who has to park his car on the street had his vehicle damaged to the tune of $2500. The person who caused the accident drove away without reporting the accident leaving the cost of repairs with the owner.
Pensioners and other poor people in our community can not afford a financial hit like that involved in having to pay to repair one's vehicle.Particularly when electricity and gas prices are so high.
In the case of the accident mentioned the elderly gentleman has to find the $850 for the repairs. Thankfully insurance will cover the rest.
People are not only in fear of their vehicles getting damaged they are in fear of getting hurt, or even killed themselves when they need to enter or leave their vehicle. You only have to miss seeing an approaching vehicle once to pay with your life.
The elderly are not as agile as younger people and can not enter or exit a car as quickly as the young.
This situation can only be solved with traffic calmers such as speed humps.
Let’s hope the new council works on this problem. People need to complain to their new councilors.

A SLAP AND A SLEDGE
In response to the page 2 article by Agron Latifi ‘TAFE is 'unacceptable’ (Illawarra Mercury, Wednesday September 6, 2017) congratulations to NSW Greens MP Dawn Walker for exposing the outrageous lack of basic facilities such as toilets and a library at the new Dapto TAFE. The fact that the State Minister responsible acknowledged this issue begs the question "why open a public facility without it being completed and ready for operation?" I completely agree with the article and the comments of Ms Walker.
But why are the Greens who have no love, respect and/or dignity for human life raising legitimate concerns about this issue? The Greens open slather policies of abortion and euthanasia prove this. If you cannot and will not look after the most innocent and venerable in society then you do not care, as you claim.
