Two Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews were called to the grassed area, on the corner of Wattle and Lake Entrance roads, after flames were spotted about 8.30pm.
A FRNSW spokeswoman said the fire burnt about one hectare of grass.
The fire was contained about 9.20pm and extinguished by 9.50pm, she said.
Two crews from Shellharbour responded to the fire.
The Shellharbour fire came just a couple of hours after firefighters from Wollongong, Corrimal and Balgownie fought a five hectare fire at Puckeys Reserve.
Thursday night’s flames burned in the same area as a fire on Wednesday afternoon, during which a firefighter suffered burns to his neck.
