Regional manager Jason James said the Rose Clinic has been created in partnership with and operated by BreastScreen NSW.
It will provide a free mammogram service for all women aged 40 years and over for the early detection of breast cancer.
As soon as the doors open on the new world-class department store on October 5 women aged between 50 and 74 will actively be invited to attend for screening mammograms every two years.
Mr James said the David Jones Rose Clinic in the Gateway Centre in Wollongong Central will have the capacity to screen over 10,500 women in the local area each year.
He said DJ’s was proud to partner with BreastScreen NSW on providing such an important free service because one in eight women in New South Wales will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
“We hope the Wollongong Rose Clinic will encourage women have regular checks,” Mr James said.
“Because early detection of breast cancer increases survival, and treatment is often less invasive than for cancers diagnosed when they are more advanced. Nine out of 10 women who develop breast cancer do not have a family history of breast cancer.”
Appointments at the Rose Clinic Wollongong can be made Monday to Friday and there are also some appointments available on Saturdays.
Mr James said it will have a one digital mammography modality in the mammography room, a quality assurance mammography workstation and two radiographers.
David Jones is also getting plenty of feedback about the Wollongong community being excited about a new food hall. With many people remembering one that operated up until the 1980s.
The new David Jones Food Hall will be 850 sqm with a complete food offering.
It will have a casual dining experience as well as fresh produce, packaged gourmet food. There are also counters for cheese and seafood, there is a bakery, a coffee shop and an extensive range of food to go, prepacked meals and sushi.
“We are now evolving into the new journey and we will be launching a fully fledged food hall. Wollongong will be the second David Jones store to showcase its revolutionised food offer,” he said.
“David Jones is in the process of investing about $100 million across the next three years in food. We recently launched out first rejuvenated food hall in Bondi Junction in August. It has been a resounding success and we will be opening our own food hall here on the lower level.”
Mr James said David Jones had been working in collaboration with Neil Perry with some of the food.
“Neil has been guiding us on our food experience and we will have to what we refer to as The Kitchen. It is our casual dining experience very similar to the new one at Bondi Junction where we work with Neil on menu selection. It is a great place to come in and have a meal. It is an all day dining experience,” he said.
